“Good. Your next instructions are waiting for you in the sauna room.”
He stood and walked off, leaving Nineveh sitting there, a bundle of bumbling nerves, fighting for air. The sauna room. Protegee. Do as he pleased. With all of her. Whatever he wanted, whenever, however, why ever.
She carefully glanced over her shoulder then stood, making her way to the door.
She headed toward the sauna room, anxious to see if this were all some joke or what. Surely, he wouldn’t joke about that. Not him.
She looked down the hall once she got to the sauna room then opened the door, peeking in. A white envelope sat on the lower bench and she hurried in and retrieved it.
She couldn’t read it there. She raced out and hurried up the stairs to her room and shut the door, staring at the envelope. Just open it.
She ran to the bed and tore it open, then read the message on the single card.
Meet me here in the sauna tomorrow night. 8:00 p.m.
Oh dear God. Her legs gave out and she collapsed onto the bed. Was this really happening? Her dreams… were they really actually happening?
It all seemed impossible. And in the back of Nineveh’s mind, she felt there had to be a catch. Something. Some glitch. Nothing this amazing happened in her life. And anytime it seemed amazing, it would turn out to be something horrifying.
But Daniel… Daniel wasn’t like that. Darius, he’d given plenty of signs showing his true colors. She’d just always counted on the good side he showed her to be the man at his core, not the reverse. The good guy was his role play, the bad guy was who he was.
Daniel… he was good all the way around, she’d not once seen a bad side in him. He’d rescued her, he’d protected her. He’d not touched her, he’d treated her like she were… precious. He made her feel and believe she was.
She shook her head, tears pouring out of her eyes. If it turned out it wasn’t real… she wouldn’t survive that lie. Not that one.
