“I think your costume is a hit,” I said to Mac, who really had rocked the whole zombie thing.
“Thanks. I think it turned out well. I’m sorry you didn’t have time to come up with your own creepy outfit.”
I shrugged. “I’m so happy and content at this point that I really didn’t have it in me to do the whole gory thing. Maybe next year.”
“We’ll be in college next year,” Mac said.
“True, but since you and I and Trev have decided to attend the same college I figure we can carry on the tradition in a new location.”
Mac smiled. “I think that’s a fantastic idea. Have you discussed the college thing with your mom?”
“I have, and now that the danger is gone she’s fine with it. I hope we can find a place that will work for all of us that isn’t too far away. I have a feeling I’m going to want to come home as often as possible. I haven’t decided on a college, and I already miss Mom, Tucker, and Shadow more than I can hardly stand.”
“Yeah. Me too. Oregon State has an excellent football program and a strong academic program, and it’s close enough to go home for visits as often as we want. Trev and I have discussed it at length, while we’re looking at a couple of others like Stanford, even it’s a day’s drive away. Suddenly I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
I hugged Mac despite the pounds of makeup she was wearing. “It does feel like the world is shiny and new.”
