A Killer in the Wind

      Andrew Klavan
     A Killer in the Wind

Three years ago, working vice for the NYPD, Dan Champion uncovered a sex slavery ring run by a kingpin known only as the Fat Woman. Obsessed with bringing her down, Champion infiltrated a world of sexual obsession and perversity. He broke the case, but the case also broke him. He started taking drugs and soon began to form hallucinations…a dead child prowling the streets of New York…a beautiful woman named Samantha who would have given him the love he always wanted—if she’d only been real. Now Champion is a small town detective, chasing burglars and juvenile delinquents, hanging out at the local tavern where he is romancing a waitress. The ghosts and hallucinations are finally behind him as he begins to rebuild his life. Then one night Champion is called to examine the body of a woman who has washed ashore. Yet when he looks at her face, he sees that it’s Samantha, the woman he dreamed about long ago...a woman who doesn’t exist. Suddenly, Champion is haunted again, only this time it’s by a team of expert killers who want to make sure he never finds the truth: the truth about the dead child who wanders through his imagination; the truth about the lover who inhabits his dreams; and the truth about a killer who has been on the run — in the wind — for a lifetime. The ghosts of the dead are all around him, and Champion has to find out who murdered them, fast, or he could become one of them himself.

    Wolves in the Shadows

      Sharon McLaughlin
     Wolves in the Shadows

Who wouldn't want to hear a story about true love and destiny sprinkled with a generous helping of violence and the supernatural? But then again, if the story's being told by something that could kill you with a mere thought, is it really worth it?Elizabeth always thought that she was just a normal-well, mostly normal- college student until a fateful encounter with the enigmatic Wolf Clan changes everything. Her world is turned inside out as she gets a frightening glimpse into a shadowy world of vampires and wolves and hunters. A world that, if she's not careful, might swallow her whole. But then again...maybe that wouldn't be so bad....Excerpt:She took a deep breath, inhaling the sticky sweet aroma of the myriad of oranges in their varying stages of ripeness and rot and the musty smell of the cobwebbed robed trees. She could never recall exactly when it was that she had begun to haunt these abandoned orange groves, but one day she just realized that every day she would have a strange compulsion to slip away from the hustle and bustle of campus life and enter the old groves through a gap in the crumbling brick wall. Sometimes she would lay sprawled out on her well worn red and white striped picnic blanket, reading or studying or writing in her little journal or just looking up at the clouds and thinking of nothing. Sometimes she would stroll aimlessly through the overgrown lines of trees, careful not to trip over the rusting smudge pots that had once burned with kerosene to keep away the frost. Sometimes she would simply stand still with her eyes closed and arms outstretched as she felt the peace on the grove flow around her like a lazy river. She would listen to the carefree songs of the little birds going about their little business and the rustle of the leaves being moved by the breeze and crunch of earth beneath her feet as she walked through this quiet place that time had forgotten. There was a sort of calm about this place that she could never quite describe. It would fill her the moment that she would step through the gap in the wall. But sometimes, especially lately, it seemed like something about the grove had shifted. The calm had become a sort of watchful brooding, a quiet stillness before a storm. It filled her heart with fearful anticipation. Like she was waiting for something that lurked just outside her sight. There was a part of her that dreaded the groves in these moments, but she found that she could not abandon her daily visits. What was it that drew her to this strange place that no one ever seemed to pay any attention to? What was she waiting for? No matter how much she pondered these questions, the answers would always elude her grasp. She could not have known that tonight, something she had been waiting for her whole life without even realizing it, would happen and change her life forever. Would it be for the better? Or would it lead her down a path towards death and despair? Only time would tell.

Now, the last thing he may witness is his own murder.Drew Maddox is a rough Private Investigator who believes what his eyes can see and his senses feel. Pandimora wears her name well, causing her own flurries of Pandemonium just by existing. Born to a mother rumored to have the madness in her, Pandimora is different than most fairies in the Realm of Aisywel. She has little regard for the incredible histories of her people, nor of the supposed rules. While not an outright rebel, she skirts the laws of Faerie propriety, but no more so than when she overhears a conversation her ears should never have found. A high elder, one of the strongest and most magical of her people has committed a crime – and now he knows that she has heard, and seen him. Pandimora has fled, but not before the elder, Lukais wraps his dark tentacles of power around her, poisoning her and barring the doors to her realm – forever. Hurt and grieving, Pandimora awakens on a snowy road – moments from being hit by Drew Maddox’s fast moving truck. Her senses muddled, her powers muffled and her entire sense of self shaken, Pandimora reaches out to Drew in desperation, finding in him the young boy she once danced with in a field. With cord of attachment fully realized between them, Faerie magic is at play, pulling them both deep into a mire of intrigue and deceit – one that sets this unlikely pair against an entire realm of mystical beings with their own rules, trials and meanings. “Find Me” is Book One in the new Faeries Lost Trilogy – an epic journey into the center of the unknown and the hearts of two souls that can never be.

    Peter Pan Must Die

     Peter Pan Must Die

In John Verdon’s most sensationally twisty novel yet, ingenious puzzle solver Dave Gurney brings his analytical brilliance to a shocking murder that couldn’t have been committed the way the police say it was. The daunting task that confronts Gurney, once the NYPD’s top homicide cop: determining the guilt or innocence of a woman already convicted of shooting her charismatic politician husband -- who was felled by a rifle bullet to the brain while delivering the eulogy at his own mother’s funeral.  Peeling back the layers, Gurney quickly finds himself waging a dangerous battle of wits with a thoroughly corrupt investigator, a disturbingly cordial mob boss, a gorgeous young temptress, and a bizarre assassin whose child-like appearance has earned him the nickname Peter Pan. Startling twists and turns occur in rapid-fire sequence, and soon Gurney is locked inside one of the darkest cases of his career – one in which multiple murders are merely the deceptive surface under which rests a scaffolding of pure evil.  Beneath the tangle of poisonous lies, Gurney discovers that the truth is more shocking than anyone had imagined. And the identity of the villain at the mystery’s center turns out to be the biggest shock of all.
