England is the Property of New Delhi

The year is 2075 AD and India is in control of much of England and Wales. In an act of unbelievable treachery (at least from London’s point of view) the Irish government has sided with New Delhi. England and Wales are being rapidly cleared for Indian colonization and only a few thousand English rebels remain in the mountainous areas. These rebels are difficult to flush out and the Indian military is using a mix of Indian commanders and Irish “Hunters” to find the remaining Englishmen. Amitabh Gavaskar is the Indian Military Governor of North West England. Most of his area is clear but there is one valley in the English Lake District that has been giving odd readings on scans done by automated skimmers flying over the area. Amitabh Gavaskar has five brothers serving in the Indian military and his youngest brother Rahul has just been assigned to the North West England district. Rahul Gavaskar’s first assignment will be to take two of Amitabh Gavaskar’s best Irish Hunters and search the valley using a skimmer. They are to land and search the valley on foot if necessary. Amitabh Gavaskar has promised his father faithfully that he will take good care of young Rahul and this should be a good first assignment for him. Rahul Gavaskar’s skimmer lands in the valley and he and the two Irish Hunters exit the vehicle and begin to search the valley. Unbeknownst to them a Chinese weapons system developed in 2047 and capable of firing obsidian ball bearings at a speed of 4,000 kilometers an hour has detected the approach of the men. The Chinese system is currently in standby mode but if it is activated by any of the Englishmen in the valley then Amitabh Gavaskar will have some very bad news to give to his father. An excerpt from “England is the Property of New Delhi” is below:“That tree is artificial,” Gavaskar yelled. “Stop her, she’s almost there.” Dempsey threw himself into the air and came down bodily on top of the woman. He grabbed her wrist with his hand but he was too late, her fingertips touched the tree. “Fingerprint ID confirmed, awaiting your command,” the tree said or to be more precise a Chinese computer buried one hundred and seventy meters below the surface relayed a voice command to the artificial tree. Shane Jennings had reached the woman too and he grabbed hold of her ankles and pulled her away from the tree. Dempsey turned her over and clamped his hand over Emmeline Sanderson’s mouth. She fought Dempsey turning her head from side to side and biting the Irishman as he fought to keep his hand over her mouth. Gavaskar saw blood starting to seep between Dempsey’s fingers. “Weapons system is active, awaiting your verbal command,” the artificial tree said. It spoke first in English and then repeated the words in Mandarin Chinese.

    Some People Die Quick

      JC Simmons
     Some People Die Quick

Pristine offshore islands, coastlines ruined by casino hotels, and Gulf of Mexico waters is the setting for intrigue, horror, and quick death. A must read for any aficionado of the Mystery/Thriller genre.Jay Leicester (pronounced "Lester"), a retired airline pilot now running his own investigation firm, is sent a client by his old friend Guy Robbins, an attorney on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. The client is a horribly disfigured young female marine biologist who is Director of a research lab on Cat Island, twelve miles off the coast of Gulfport. Her disfigurement is the result of an attack by a tiger shark during a dive to the wreck of a World War Two German submarine sank during the war by the U.S. Navy off the coast of Chandeleur Island.During a two year recovery period the scientist becomes convinced the attack was orchestrated by someone who wanted to steal the formula for a shark repellent being developed at the research lab. The repellent, if perfected, would be worth billions of dollars. How a pelagic shark could be used to attack a specific diver in the open ocean becomes the enigma behind the investigation of this mystery thriller. One of the most enigmatic characters is the marine biologist herself. Annatoo Yillah, a direct descendant of Polynesian parents, is as strange as she is intelligent. A woman who, though educated in the west, believes she is an ancient God of Tiburon - a shark god. Other characters in the work are: Anna Yillah's two research assistants, George Lenoir and Vickey Fourche, brilliant graduate students from Mississippi State University, who worship and learn at the feet of their mentor; Susan Weems, a lifelong friend and former colleague of Anna Yillah, enters the scene with a bizarre tale of love and friendship; a career criminal and shrimp fisherman, Bob Sabado, who is tied to the lab by unrequited love. Then we meet Hebrone Opshinsky, one of those unforgettable characters that linger on in our mind forever. An "in-country" Viet Nam soldier trained as a silent killer and put back on the street after the war without any indoctrination in how to adjust to a peaceful society. A man who is more deadly than all the sharks in the Gulf of Mexico and lives among the underbelly of the shrimp fishermen along the docks of the Mississippi Coast. Finally, we meet a Police Detective and a Chief of Police who could not be more different in their investigative techniques. Both think Jay Leicester may be responsible for three murders and an attempt at a fourth. After meeting with Anna Yillah and conferring with Guy Robbins, Jay takes the case and accompanies her to Cat Island. Understanding why a brilliant research scientist could believe an attack in the open ocean by a shark could be purposefully accomplished is the first priority. He learned quickly that not only was it possible, but that it was exactly what had happened. With hundreds of visiting scientists rotating on and off the island doing research, the list of possible suspects seems insurmountable, but soon is narrowed to a select few. To expose the antagonist Anna and Jay recreate the original dive on the German submarine. It goes horribly wrong resulting in a ghastly death and failing to reveal a murderer. Starting over, Leicester finds an unlikely ally in an original suspect. This assistance leads to the discovery of the killer, but not before another innocent life is lost, and Jay is confronted with his own mortality.Pristine offshore islands, coastlines ruined by casino hotels, and Gulf of Mexico waters is the setting for intrigue, horror, and quick death.     Shut Your Eyes Tight

      John Verdon
     Shut Your Eyes Tight

When he was the NYPD’s top homicide investigator, Dave Gurney was never comfortable with the label the press gave him: super detective. He was simply a man who, when faced with a puzzle, wanted to know. He was called to the investigative hunt by the presumptuous arrogance of murderers – by their smug belief that they could kill without leaving a trace. There was always a trace, Gurney believed. Except what if one day there wasn’t? Dave Gurney, a few months past the Mellery case that pulled him out of retirement and then nearly killed him, is trying once again to adjust to his country house’s bucolic rhythms when he receives a call about a case so seductively bewildering that the thought of not looking into it seems unimaginable—even if his beloved wife, Madeleine, would rather he do anything but. The facts of what has occurred are horrible: a blushing bride, newly wed to an eminent psychiatrist and just minutes from hearing her congratulatory toast, is found decapitated, her head apparently severed by a machete. Though police investigators believe that a Mexican gardener killed the young woman in a fit of jealous fury, the victim’s mother—a chilly high-society beauty—is having none of it. Reluctantly drawn in, Dave is quickly buffeted by a series of revelations that transform the bizarrely monstrous into the monstrously bizarre.   Underneath it all may exist one of the darkest criminal schemes imaginable. And as Gurney begins deciphering its grotesque outlines, some of his most cherished assumptions about himself are challenged, causing him to stare into an abyss so deep that it threatens to swallow not just him but Madeleine, too. Desperate to protect Madeleine and bring an end to the madness, Gurney ultimately discovers that the killer has left a trace after all. Unfortunately, the revelation may come too late to save his own life. With Shut Your Eyes Tight, John Verdon delivers on the promise of his internationally bestselling debut, Think of a Number, creating a portrait of evil let loose across generations that is as rife with moments of touching humanity as it is with spellbinding images of perversity.
