Long Way Back - Orbit the Sun – Part 8

Getting back to Earth is a roller coaster ride as disappointment follows exhilaration over and over; yet when everyone has given up there is a sliver of hope from the last place anyone thought of, but Earthrise isn’t the same place that was flung into space, and while some just want to get home others see the potential to exploit.Coping with the traumatic experiences Ava endured with the Kakos is more challenging than she ever imagined it to be. She finds herself struggling to remember the details of her time kept away with Damien Kakos and when the memories assault her mind, she is plagued with crippling fear. There is something in the back of Ava’s thoughts screaming at her, telling her that the fight with the devil’s brood has not yet ended.Newly married, Ava and Ari deal with issues involving trust, honesty and faith in one another and as they plot their course for a new life together, they discover that their individual wants and needs don’t exactly match. Ari’s promises to Ava begin to break. Some of the Alexander’s family secrets are revealed and Ava realizes that she needs to keep her friends close, and her enemies even closer.A Broken Fate, the second novel in The Beautiful Fate Series, dives further into Ava and Ari’s nail-bitter of a story and adds even more suspense, mystery, romance and thrills. This series is impossible for any reader to resist.

     When The Stars Are Right

A new form of propulsion has the military excited. But why do they need an expert in ritual magic on board their new flagship spacecraft? And why do they need an exorcist? It is soon apparent they are meddling with forces they don't understand. But can they be controlled? A Lovecraftian short story.A new form of propulsion has the military excited. But why do they need an expert in ritual magic on board their new flagship spacecraft? And why do they need an exorcist? It is soon apparent they are meddling with forces they don't understand. But can they be controlled? A Lovecraftian short story. This is an old one, from about 1993, not long after I started out. It got reworked into an expanded novella THE PLASM for Dark Regions Press, but here it is in its original form. Think of it in black and white, 50s B movie style — that's how it runs in my head.

    All Tomorrow's Parties

      William Gibson
     All Tomorrow's Parties

Although Colin Laney (from Gibson's earlier novel Idoru) lives in a cardboard box, he has the power to change the world. Thanks to an experimental drug that he received during his youth, Colin can see "nodal points" in the vast streams of data that make up the worldwide computer network. Nodal points are rare but significant events in history that forever change society, even though they might not be recognizable as such when they occur. Colin isn't quite sure what's going to happen when society reaches this latest nodal point, but he knows it's going to be big. And he knows it's going to occur on the Bay Bridge in San Francisco, which has been home to a sort of SoHo-esque shantytown since an earthquake rendered it structurally unsound to carry traffic. Although All Tomorrow's Parties includes characters from two of Gibson's earlier novels, it's not a direct sequel to either. It's a stand-alone book.--Craig E. Engler

John Smith, World Jumper Book One: Portal to Adventure

      E. Patrick Dorris
John Smith, World Jumper Book One: Portal to Adventure

Waking, hospitalized with amnesia during World War I, "John Smith" quickly realizes he is not like other men. John can travel to parallel worlds, seemingly through the power of his own mind.In this first serial, he not only learns of his power when it is triggered in the stress of combat, but visits an Earth still trapped in an ice age.WARNING: The John Smith World Jumper series is written specifically to emulate the wordy language patterns of early adventure fiction such as the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Robert E. Howard, and even other Victorian era fiction, such as the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and H.G. Wells. THIS is on purpose, and if you do not like wordy descriptions, humble heroes, long sentences, and other such old fashioned concepts, then this is propbably not the work for you. It's OK. Other more "modern" works are in the process of being written, and those will be posted as such. But because nobody is writing like this anymore, I just had to see if I could do it.If you enjoy such stories, then I hope you enjoy John Smith as much as I enjoy writing it!

With nukes. Little ones at first, but winding up with a 500 megatonner at 90 miles that fried every piece of electronics within sight. Richard Ashton thought he was just a ringside observer to these now over-the-horizon events. Until the crippled alien lifeboat came drifting down and homed in on his sailboat; suddenly he had his hands full of an unconscious, critially wounded alien warrior - who just happened to be a gorgeous female, too. And that was when it began to get really interesting...
