Halo: Contact Harvest

      Joseph Staten
     Halo: Contact Harvest

This is how it began. . . It is the year 2524.   Harvest is a peaceful, prosperous farming colony on the very edge of human-controlled space.   But we have trespassed on holy ground--strayed into the path of an aggressive alien empire known as the Covenant.   What begins as a chance encounter between an alien privateer and a human freighter catapults mankind into a struggle for its very existence. But humanity is also locked in a bitter civil war known as the Insurrection.   So the survival of Harvest's citizens falls to a squad of battle-weary UNSC Marines and their inexperienced colonial militia trainees.   In this unlikely group of heroes, one stands above the rest. . . a young Marine staff sergeant named Avery Johnson.

     Operation R.S.V.P.

Prometheus Award Winning Author! Here is the finest work of H. Beam Piper (1904-64), an engineer turned science fiction writer. Little Fuzzy and Graveyard of Dreams belong to his famous "Terrian Federation" series. Time Crime belongs to Piper's tales of various agents of the "Paratime Police" as they work to prevent tyranny and war across the timelines. Genesis and Operation RSVP show the author's mind at work outside the confines of either series. One of the year's greatest reading bargains.

      Alexander Ulysses Thor
Bright Night Past Yesterday: Book One of Forever Tomorrow, Volume One of The Book of Tomorrows

In 2190, a New America celebrates its first centennial, marking the time when a wandering rogue turned into a Prophet Warrior rebuilt the battle-scarred country on principles he found in the pages of The Book of Tomorrows, but a hereditary link to a young couple reveals a dark conspiracy that forces them on a fateful journey through the past to save their future tomorrow.Driven by a powerful love story, The Book of Tomorrows is a suspense-filled conspiracy thriller steeped in dark secrets, hidden pasts, ancient truths, and might just turn out to be the first prophetically true story set 175 years in the future, as it puts forth a distinctly credible answer to life’s greatest mystery, life itself.A Trilogy within in a Trilogy, Forever Tomorrow: Volume One of The Book of Tomorrows begins this visionary epic at the end with Book One: Bright Night Past Yesterday. Each volume tells a complete story the reader can enjoy separately, chronologically, or as numerically conceived, starting and ending with Forever Tomorrow. Book Two: Dark Light Present Today of volume one directly follows book one, while holding back Book Three: Evening Dawn Future Tomorrow as the last story told. Readable as its own separate trilogy, Forever Tomorrow tells a tale the whole family can enjoy, while Volume Two: I, Messiah & Volume Three: The Prophet Warrior, contain much darker stories more mature readers can pass down to their children when old enough. In the year 2190, New America is celebrating its first centennial, marking the time when a wandering rogue turned into a Prophet Warrior rebuilt the battle-scarred country on 5 key principles for survival he found in the pages of The Book of Tomorrows. But years later, a hereditary link reveals a dark conspiracy that forces a young couple on a fateful journey through the past to save their future tomorrow. Michael Angel and Eve Adams meet for the first time through a government mandated Selected Breeding Program. He is the unknown heir of the Prophet Warrior and she is a rebel spy of the Free Will Forever (FWF) rebellion specifically recruited to be Michael’s mate. They fall in love at a museum, where they join a group of schoolchildren taking a computer-guided history tour given by an animated, 3-D old man, who looks like a cross between Albert Einstein and The Monopoly Man. Michael works as a researcher for Jacob Rose, the country’s most beloved celebrity and Michael’s best friend. Jacob’s TV specials are a favorite of Guardian Administrator Cain—ancestor of the despot general who co-founded New America with the Prophet Warrior. Michael has to leave on an expedited expedition and makes a fantastic discovery exploring the depths of a submerged New York City on a bold, early morning swim through Rockefeller Center. Meanwhile, Eve is feeling the pressure of not being pregnant from both the SBP and the FWF. Then the discovery of Michael’s hidden ancestral lineage and Eve’s clandestine rebel cause forces them to go seek out ancients truths dating back before the founding of New America to prove the paradox of how great evil can sometimes give birth to a greater good, just as easily as written words meant to save, can also destroy. An edge-of-your-seat, grand action adventure, where no one is who they appear to be, keeping the reader held in suspense until the last page of the spine-tinglingly final chapter of the epic futuristic trilogy is turned. A well-crafted, intelligent thrill-ride, filled with high adventure, true romance and nail-biting cliffhanger endings, The Book of Tomorrows is an inspirational, socially redeeming good story that is sure to elicit more than emotion from the reader.

The first three volumes of Tales of the Vuduri explored only a portion of the background and future history leading up to the Rome’s Revolution trilogy and its sequel, The Milk Run. Tales of the Vuduri: Year Four follows on the heels of those successful first three compilations with 370 brand new essays about our 21st century hero, Rei Bierak and his beautiful 35th century Vuduri wife, Rome and their children, Aason and Lupe. This volume finishes up a detailed breakdown of the latter part of the first novel and dives into the beginning of The Ark Lords. Included in this collection are posts regarding Elon Musk’s expanding use of solar power, an examination of how robots see, free will versus predestination, gravity waves, zero point energy and much, much more. Also included are previews of The Vuduri Companion, a compilation of short stories and novelettes filling in more backstories of the Vuduri universe, the blackest substance on Earth and hexagons on Saturn. Like the first three years of Tales of the Vuduri, these essays should be amusing, thought-provoking and give you more insight into the fascinating world of Rome’s Revolution and The Milk Run.     The Heritage of Hastur

      Marion Zimmer Bradley
     The Heritage of Hastur

Described as "Bradley's best novel" by Locus, THE HERITAGE OF HASTUR, longest and most intricate of the Darkover books, is a brilliant epic of the pivotal event in the strange love-hate relationship between the Terran worlds and the semi-alien offspring of forgotten peoples. This is the novel of the Hastur tradition and of the showdown between those who would bargain away their world for the glories of star-borne science and those who would preserve the special "matrix" power that was at once the prize and the burden of ruddy-sunned Darkover. A Note From the Author: To the faithful followers of the chronicles of Darkover, whose greatest delight seems to be discovering even the most minute inconsistencies from book to book: This book tells a story which a great many of the friends of Darkover have asked me to tell - the story of the early life of Regis Hastur, and of the Sharra rising, and of Lew Alton's first encounter with Marjorie Scott and the man who called himself Kadarin. The faithful followers mentioned above will discover a very few minute inconsistencies between the account herein, and the story as Lew Alton told it later. I make no apologies for these. The only explanation I can make is that in the years which elapsed between the events in this book, and the later novel dealing with the final destruction of the Sharra matrix, Lew's memories of these events may have altered his perceptions. Or, as I myself believe, the telepaths of the Arilinn Tower may have mercifully blurred his memories, to save his reason. MARION ZIMMER BRADLEY

     Ravenous

The world didn’t end with a bang, it didn’t go out in a ball of fire and fury, nor did it end in ice. But in some strange way, ice was the end; or maybe it was the beginning of something more. Bethany is stunned and horrified when she finds herself suddenly alone in a world that was alive only moments before. Terrified, she flees into the streets of her town, looking for answers, and desperate to reach her family. Panicked, she is nearly captured by the monsters hunting her until Cade steps in to rescue her. Dark and distant, most people in school are wary of Cade, yet oddly fascinated by him. They had once been close as children, but it has been years since Bethany has had any real contact with Cade. As their situation becomes even more perilous, Bethany struggles to come to terms with her past, her terrifying new reality, and her growing love for a boy that is powerful, mysterious, and perhaps even more frightening than the aliens hunting them. Aliens that want more than their lives, they also want their blood.

    Into the Slave Nebula

      John Brunner
     Into the Slave Nebula

It was carnival time on Earth. Prosperity was at its peak; science had triumphed over environment; all human needs were taken care of by computers, robots and androids. There was nothing left for humans to do but enjoy, themselves . . . to seek pleasure where they found it, without inhibitions and without thinking of the price. Then an android died - in a senseless, brutal murder. And young Derry Horn was shocked out of his boredom and alienation. His life of flabby ease had not prepared him for a fantastically dangerous mission to outlying, primitive stars - but now, at last, he had a reason for living. And even when he found himself a prisoner of ruthless slavers, even when he learned the shocking truth about what the androids really were and where they came from . . . even when he saw all the laws of the orderly, civilised universe he knew turned upside-down and inside-out . . . he fought on. For that universe had to be shattered and reborn - even if Derry Horn and the Earth he had irrevocably left behind died in the process! (First published 1968)
