     The Doomsday

Dr. Ahuja is a world renowned Space scientist and his lovely, intelligent daughter Divya dreams to be one among the stars. The Earth is sound asleep in peace and calm only to be awakened to startling and catastrophic events. The book of prophecy and an ancient astrologer’s word has come true.Alien attack and the destruction of the entire solar system are beginning of a new start. The ‘End of the world’ is near but everyone, except Divya is unaware of it. Divya is an Indo-American high school girl from San Francisco. Her father is a scientist with NASA. On her school trip to India, she discovers an ancient book which predicts a disaster to be indicated by a sign in the sky. Divya is terrified when she sees the sign one day. But nobody believes her and finally the prediction comes true – the solar system is facing its end. Sun undergoes drastic chemical reaction due to it’s collision with a comet. The sun undergoes a phenomenon called ‘reunion of solar system’ and starts engulfing the planets. The ancient book had mentioned that a solution to this disaster was brought down on earth thousands of years ago in a meteor rain. Scientists are doing all that they could do to save the earth as the earth inches day by day towards its horrific end. The temperatures on earth increase day by day. On one such hot day, Divya goes out to the lonely beach and finds an alien friend who was brought down along with the meteors thousands of years ago. Divya is sure that he is the saviour of earth as mentioned in the book. But maybe it was too late now. She names him Ami. Ami is highly intelligent as compared to humans. He has special powers too. Meanwhile scientists try to move earth away from sun by programming satellites but as the doomsday was destined, the experiment backfires. Satellites loose control over earth and earth begins to roll randomly in space! Scientists can do nothing to stop it and everything is left to almighty. Then miraculously, as if the prayers of 7 billion people get answered, earth finally comes to halt in a new space. Everyone is relieved to have survived the doomsday. Soon there is a friend request from nearby planet Gianta. The Giantians are highly advanced and very helpful beings. They are very much like humans. Later on, it is revealed that earth was halted and saved only because of them. The humans are greatly impressed by the Giantians. The two planets are quick to share the technological knowledge to benefit mutually. But the Giantians are traitors disguised as friends. Their planet lacks natural resources and with their advanced technology they have created an amazingly beautiful synthetic world. Their intentions are obvious. They are blinded by the immense natural resource that the planet earth has. Their intention is to rule our planet and make us all their slaves. They had very cleverly inserted a Nano-chip in the delegates from earth who visited them. These people became their human robots and worked as per their command. Divya’s father is one of the human robots. But, before the Giantians could achieve their goal, Ami and Divya accidently come to know the truth. They help Divya’s father to recover back into a normal human. They want to recover others too. But it is too late. The population of human robots have increased beyond control and it very rapidly goes on increasing. Divya and Ami along with a handful of scientists are the only humans left. They get trapped by human robots all around them. Still they try to save the earth and finally Ami succeeds in saving all. Aliens are threatened as their plot completely fails. They want to take revenge and release the earth from its orbit. As a result, Earth once again starts rolling in space. But luckily, this time, it gets attracted by sun, which has become stable by now. Ami too is able to sense the signal from his star. Earth comes back in the solar system and Ami returns back to his home star.

    Bouncing High Above the World

      Jim Cline
     Bouncing High Above the World

On a rainy day which had canceled out a glider training flight, the time was spent investigating an odd rectangle in the desert vegetation off the edge of an old runway. What they found there brought memories of WWII-era tale that enlivened nights around the campfire at the ranch long ago.Any scientific expedition to the Arctic expects plenty of risk. However, Dr. Welham of Miskatonic University's survey uncovers far more than the usual geologic and ethnographic samples. In the severe, rock-scouring blizzards of the far north, the team comes across a hideous object from an elder age. A relic that brings earth shattering terror in its wake...  This story is loosely inspired by H. P. Lovecraft's short story, Polaris, which was written in 1918. In that story, a modern man is troubled by recurring dreams, gaining in intensity. During these visions, he assumes the role of a sentry guarding the pass against the invading Inutos people from the west. However, under the malign influence of the pole star, the watcher falls asleep. This time, when he awakes, screaming, the sentry wakes as a modern man and realises that he has failed the marble city of Olathoe in the lost land of Lomar.

    Bright Shiny Morning

      James Frey
     Bright Shiny Morning

One of the most celebrated and controversial authors in America delivers his first novel—a sweeping chronicle of contemporary Los Angeles that is bold, exhilarating, and utterly original. Dozens of characters pass across the reader's sight lines—some never to be seen again—but James Frey lingers on a handful of LA's lost souls and captures the dramatic narrative of their lives: a bright, ambitious young Mexican-American woman who allows her future to be undone by a moment of searing humiliation; a supremely narcissistic action-movie star whose passion for the unattainable object of his affection nearly destroys him; a couple, both nineteen years old, who flee their suffocating hometown and struggle to survive on the fringes of the great city; and an aging Venice Beach alcoholic whose life is turned upside down when a meth-addled teenage girl shows up half-dead outside the restroom he calls home. Throughout this strikingly powerful novel there is the relentless drumbeat of the millions of other stories that, taken as a whole, describe a city, a culture, and an age. A dazzling tour de force, Bright Shiny Morning illuminates the joys, horrors, and unexpected fortunes of life and death in Los Angeles.

An End, a short story, was first published by Mixer Publishing. From An End:"When Matthew returned there were twelve. He found the eleven others pressed shoulder to shoulder under a corrugated metal roof like thick lines of Others waiting to plug in and make their dull eyes bright. He listened to the rain on the roof. Twelve seemed too many. No matter, all love. The rain stopped and the twelve dispersed to their digging, planting, hoeing, picking, macheteing, cooking, eating, conversing, excreting, to their coffee, to their macadamia, and to their cane.Matthew returned to the routine of the days. He forgot to count them. It did not take him long to not think anything of note. The other Community members spoke often, but often without expressing clear thoughts. He occasionally spoke to Mary of nothing. He had a conversation with Maggie that caused him unhappiness. He did not think about it. It was forgotten. He worked in silence."

    AlberTa's Gift

      Les W Kuzyk
     AlberTa's Gift

As Albert stood beside Minister Teslo, he thought of that long ago street hockey game ending with his face plant. Severe asthma kept him gasping for breath on that childhood ambulance ride to hospital. Now, as he listened to this Energy of Tomorrow speech at the coal fired power plant he wondered about his gift. Had it been written in his mother’s tear stained eyes or was there much more?Mindful of his scheduled midterm back at University in the city, Albert had ridden his e-bike at the Minister’s request out to this autumn countryside ceremony. He understood so much better now why Minister Teslo wanted to replace the power plant steam with a geothermal source—he had chosen geothermal as his engineering option. But as an asthmatic eleven year old he had only wanted to play street hockey that day. Half listening to the honorable Minister’s speech below the Energy of Tomorrow banner, Albert thought back to that day before Christmas he joined his cool brother Duke and the other boys in a game of hockey on the front street. He snuck out right past Mom to prove his boyhood courage. He should have heard her air index warning that morning, but at that age he hadn’t understood much about the atmosphere. His hockey game trauma mixed in with memories of his father’s talking about Paris back in 2015. How could a boy get what caused such a severe asthma attack? Ground level ozone was invisible just like carbon dioxide and a lot of adults still didn’t get climate change today. But now he could tell. The new normal weather and his global social media friends knew how serious the situation had become around the world. That day he nearly breathed his last had become a solid background to his outlook on the planet and the future of his generation. He was grateful for his father’s insight into news reports, yet he appreciated even more the action being taken by the government. That woman Minister who came to the hospital back then and ten years later Minister Teslo speaking today were really doing something. But, he knew, only if he and his friends and classmates kept up the social license pressure.
