    Six Years

      Harlan Coben
     Six Years

Harlan Coben, the master of domestic suspense, returns with a standalone thriller in the vein of #1 bestsellers Hold Tight, Caught and Stay Close that explores the depth and passion of a lost love . . . and the secrets and lies at its heart. Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd. But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for . . . but she is not Natalie. Whoever the mourning widow is, she’s been married to Todd for more than a decade, and with that fact everything Jake thought he knew about the best time of his life—a time he has never gotten over—is turned completely inside out. As Jake searches for the truth, his picture-perfect memories of Natalie begin to unravel. Mutual friends of the couple either can’t be found or don’t remember Jake. No one has seen Natalie in years. Jake’s search for the woman who broke his heart—and who lied to him—soon puts his very life at risk as it dawns on him that the man he has become may be based on carefully constructed fiction. Harlan Coben once again delivers a shocking page-turner that deftly explores the power of past love and the secrets and lies that such love can hide.

    By the Numbers

      L. Scott Silverii, PhD
     By the Numbers

By the Numbers is the first in the "A Cajun Murder Mystery Series" of short stories by Chief of Police L. Scott Silverii. This fast paced serial killer mystery takes place along the bayous of south Louisiana's Cajun Country. Sometimes murder just doesn't add up. Laissez les bons temps rouler - until somebody gets killed of course. Not being particularly bright or particularly particular, I sometimes wrote my thoughts and feelings down and have decided to release some of this treasure trove of futility for public consumption. I read some of the things I’ve written in the past and have to chuckle now. You may find other writings are sappy or immature, but to me, they still express how I feel and reading them gives me an inner peace when I realize I recaptured a fleeting moment of clarity where I could almost tangibly touch something as vague as a feeling and remind myself almost like a sixth sense of its presence and ethereal, almost spiritual existence. The following attempts at poems, songs, stories, and random thoughts I’ve written were dug up from various archives including notepads in a photo album box or old files backed up on CDs from old computers. Since 1986, I invite you, the lucky reader, to peek into a section of an arc in my life where each piece of work reveal a tone and stage of maturity which in themselves tell a story about me and who and where I was in my life perhaps in the context of the day – or maybe it’s all a bunch of random thoughts and a complete waste of your time, you decide!Hey, I read “Tale of Two Cities” and didn’t skip a word. To be honest, after I read this classic, I really wish I had skipped the entire book. For some reason, if you make it through this short book, I think you may agree I could have been a country songwriter even though I never particularly cared for country music. That reason could be simple, though. Every morning at 6:15, my Dad would listen to the local country radio station as he corralled my brother and I to get ready for school, so perhaps I associate the daily drudgery of being forced to go to school each morning with country music so echoes of my feelings of disdain still linger and resonate somewhere in my subconscious. The following early writings are not in any chronological order. When I was younger, I sometimes found myself in angry, rebellious, skeptical, and often depressing periods of introspection going head-to-head with a simple but honest sense of positive hope. If I had my mid-life crisis, I rambled through it in my own way. Maybe this will help those who are at that stage in their life now – or perhaps make them more depressed. If it will make you more depressed, because I do go into some sad and dark corners of life experiences, please do NOT read on.I don’t take much of my writing very seriously, but who knows, with over 100 attempts at poems and songs, maybe an 80s hair band staging a comeback might want to buy one?!- Aaron

No one, that is, except ghostwriter and Merlot-lover Roxy Parker. She’s been writing Beattie’s 'autobiography' and has just stumbled on a secret that’s worth killing for. With slick black hair, tortoise-shell glasses and a penchant for cheap Merlot, Roxy Parker is a sassy new female detective … except she’s not strictly a detective. Beatrice has promised Roxy a secret worth writing about, but before she gets the chance to tell all, the socialite is found ripped to shreds at the bottom of a cliff. The police say it's suicide but Roxy knows better—there are too many people looking way too relieved. And so she embarks on an investigation of her own. From the posh suburbs of inner-city Sydney to remote outback Australia, Roxy finds herself lured into a web of deceit where time has healed no wounds and no one is who they appear to be. One thing, however, is crystal clear: chasing headlines can be a deadly occupation. Roxy must also act fast—there's a menacing stranger threatening her life, a handsome best friend growing increasingly impatient, and her mother is really starting to get on her nerves. Killer Twist is a fun, fast-paced adventure for anyone who loves a good cozy mystery with a little wine swilling and fashionable accessories on the side.A Word of Caution About the Language This story is set in Australia so you may come across some unusual colloquialisms and cursing. Both are an everyday part of our vernacular but I apologise for any confusion or offence; it is not intended.
