Hide and Seek - part 1 - Rhyming & Non Rhyming Poems

      Nikhil Parekh
Hide and Seek - part 1 - Rhyming & Non Rhyming Poems

This Book which has 50 differently titled Poems , is actually part 1 of the Book titled – Hide and Seek – Rhyming & Non Rhyming Poems ( 702 pages ) .Parekh's earliest collection of verse. Written in unparallelled fervor, this collection is a delectable blend of topics from love to death, probing into countless infinitesimal aspects of existence which make a significant impact to it. The beauty of this compendium lies in its magical brevity at places and in the most mundane things of life around us brought to the fore like a magicians wand, in brilliant poetic flair by Parekh. Contains poems on topics impossible for one to envisage that a poem could be written about such an inconspicuous little thing-but Parekh evolves bountiful rhyme from the word go and coalesces vivacious color in the little tid-bits of the chapter called life to optimum effect. A must read for all those who find color, charm and significance in even the smallest things of life and are enthused by even the most mercurial bit of stray paper loitering around. A poetic tribute to the ordinary, projecting its colorful extraordinary bit to the planet with raw panache. This book tingles every living being's imagination to fantasize beyond the ordinary. Look at all those meaningful tid-bits around us which have a complete book written in each one of them. All those joyous and unfortunate anecdotes around us which make us blossom into the true spirit of existence; into the amazing celebration of omnipotent life.

    Inconveniences Rightly Considered

      Lancelot Schaubert
     Inconveniences Rightly Considered

You come across inconveniences -- a stone in your shoe, a raincloud over your morning walk, a flower petal in your eye, a loose baby tooth, gallstones that pass and come out in the shape of fool's gold. You have two choices -- annoyance or reverence. Those who treat inconveniences, bothers, and pains with reverence -- there lie your adventurers, your romantics, your poets.G.K. Chesterton wrote a very short piece that everyone should read entitled On Chasing After One's Hat in which he argues that an adventure is really a matter of perspective and traveling companions, not a destination or a time slot or a reason for travel. His typical one-liner from that piece goes, "An inconvenience, rightly considered, is an adventure. An adventure, wrongly considered, is an inconvenience." In that spirit, the spirit articulated above, these poems come from my adventures over the last decade. ∴ they also come from having rightly considered all of my inconveniences. That definition of adventure is also a wonderful definition of poetry. I say this as a romantic in the old sense of the word, as someone attempting to build upon Inkling and neoplatonic thought, as someone whose every contact with the world sends out further spores of mystery and chivalry, bee and his pollen, love and the court that follows after her. After all, the damsel's distress had nothing to do with needing saving and everything to do with the internal turmoil of her mind as it attempted to seek the higher in the midst of the every day. She was distressed not because she was in a tower and needed a prince, but because it's hard work to rightly consider the inconvenient. Again, Chesterton from his book on Blake:"We all feel the riddle of the earth without anyone to point it out. The mystery of life is the plainest part of it. The clouds and curtains of darkness, the confounding vapours, these are the daily weather of this world. Whatever else we have grown accustomed to, we have grown accustomed to the unaccountable. Every stone or flower is a hieroglyphic of which we have lost the key; with every step of our lives we enter into the middle of some story which we are certain to misunderstand...." At the intersection of those two Chesterton quotes lies this book of poems. In life, you come across inconveniences all the time -- a stone in your shoe, a raincloud over your morning walk (in Brooklyn, a drizzle seems a downpour when endured for thirty blocks), a flower petal in your eye, a loose baby tooth, gallstones that pass and come out in the shape of fool's gold. When these things happen, you have two choices -- annoyance or reverence. Those who treat the inconveniences of this world, the nuisances and trials, the bothers and pains with reverence -- there lie your adventurers, your romantics, your poets. Everything truly is a hieroglyphic, a prop in the midst (and mist) of this great and eternal drama we find ourselves within, something we are certain to misunderstand without the proper key. Poetry, for me, has been one of these keys to unlock the inconvenient -- even inconvenient, lesser poems that I do not like and cannot "get." Poetry's not the skeleton key, of course, but it is something like a key to the foyer. Poetry, when done well, unlocks the bothers and nuisances of everyday life, sometimes through observation, sometimes through participation, never through willful ignorance and disengagement. Poetry begs us to engage with the world around us, to discover the story and the world hidden in every little thing, to delve into that In-side which is surely deeper and higher and broader than any outside, let in The Light through that crack in everything, and call us further Up and further In.PRAISE for Lancelot Schaubert ::“Schaubert’s words have an immediacy, a potency, an intimacy that grab the reader by the collar and say ‘Listen, this is important!’ Probing the bones and gristle of humanity, his subjects challenge, but also offer insights into redemption if only we will stop and pay attention.” — Erika Robuck, National Bestselling Author of Hemingway’s Girl“Loved this story because Lance wrote about people who don't get written about enough and he did it with humor, compassion, and heart.”— Brian Slatterly, author of Lost Everything and editor of The New Haven Review

    Havelok the Dane

      Charles W. Whistler
     Havelok the Dane

This story is not about myself, though, because I tell of things that I have seen, my name must needs come into it now and then. The man whose deeds I would not have forgotten is my foster-brother, Havelok, of whom I suppose every one in England has heard. Havelok the Dane men call him here, and that is how he will always be known, as I think. He being so well known, it is likely that some will write down his doings, and, not knowing them save by hearsay, will write them wrongly and in different ways, whereof will come confusion, and at last none will be believed. Wherefore, as he will not set them down himself, it is best that I do so. Not that I would have anyone think that the penmanship is mine. Well may I handle oar, and fairly well axe and sword, as is fitting for a seaman, but the pen made of goose feather is beyond my rough grip in its littleness, though I may make shift to use a sail-needle, for it is stiff and straightforward in its ways, and no scrawling goeth therewith. Therefore my friend Wislac, the English priest, will be the penman, having skill thereto. I would have it known that I can well trust him to write even as I speak, though he has full leave to set aside all hard words and unseemly, such as a sailor is apt to use unawares; and where my Danish way of speaking goeth not altogether with the English, he may alter the wording as he will, so long as the sense is always the same. Then, also, will he read over to me what he has written, and therefore all may be sure that this is indeed my true story.

    The Dance Of A Woman

      Rani Jhala
     The Dance Of A Woman

A collection of 6 short stories The author wishes to thank Indian Link for their permission to publish these.ViolaI didn't want to, you know? I didn't want to find myself in a room full of people I didn't know. I didn't want to find myself crying in the bathroom, playing in my mind the memory of him kissing her. I didn't want to.It hurts. It hurts to know this is a modern fairytale. No happy endings, no wind in our sails. But I'm so naive. I can't imagine a life without him. Breathless moments, breaking me down. Its funny. Life is like a book. Some chapters are sad, some happy, and some exciting. But if you never turn the next page, you will never know what the next chapter holds. The Fault in Our Stars for instance. Weren't we all just dying to find out what happens to them? Life is easy, though, but we insist on making it so complicated. They don't notice. Behind my smile, is a hurting heart. Behind my laugh, I'm falling apart. If you look closely at me, you will see, the girl I am... isn't me.They don't get it. I have fallen, I have made mistakes. I live, I learn, I've been hurt, repeatedly, but I'm alive. I'm human and I'm not perfect, can't they see that? Can't he see that?I remember someone telling me once that some relationships are like glass. It's better to leave it broken, than to hurt yourself more by trying to put it back together.I'm proud of my heart, yeah? It's been stabbed, cheated, burn and broken, but somehow, it still works. I love my heart, even if he doesn't. Its been broken, stamped on and totally trashed, but it still beats. He doesn't deserve it, yet I give it to him.The truth is that it hurts because it's real. It hurts because it mattered. And that's the important thing to acknowledge to yourself. The only way out of the labyrinth of suffering is to forgive. And that's what I did, all the time. But love, love is so different. Love is like handing someone a gun, having them point it at your heart, and trusting them to never pull the trigger. It's when you really look at them, you stop seeing a perfect nose or straight teeth. You stop seeing the acne scar or the dimple in the chin. Those things start to blur, and suddenly you see them, the colors. The life inside the shell and beauty takes on a whole new meaning. Why do I love someone who doesn't love me in return? Why do I always think of him, if he never thought of me? Why do I always wait for him, if never waits for me? Why do I see him, if he never sees me? Tell me why.He hurt me. I handed my heart yo him and said be careful. But as stupid as he was, he broke it. Over and over again. And after all the crap he put me through, I still love him. When he said that we would be together forever, I thought that meant until we died. But... I guess forever isn't as long as it used to be... is it?But here's my real question; What do you do when the one who broke your heart is the one who can fix it? Tell me, what do I do?
