The Writer and the World: Essays

      V. S. Naipaul
The Writer and the World: Essays

Spanning four decades and four continents, this magisterial volume brings together the essential shorter works of reflection and reportage by our most sensitive, literate, and undeceivable observer of the post-colonial world. In its pages V. S. Naipaul trains his relentless moral intelligence on societies from India to the United States and sees how each deals with the challenges of modernity and the seductions of both the real and mythical past. Whether he is writing about a string of racial murders in Trinidad; the mad, corrupt reign of Mobutu in Zaire; Argentina under the generals; or Dallas during the 1984 Republican Convention, Naipaul combines intellectual playfulness with sorrow, indignation, and analysis so far-reaching that it approaches prophecy. The Writer and the World reminds us that he is in a class by himself. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Church Boyz 1 (Rod of the Wicked)

      H.H. Fowler
Church Boyz 1 (Rod of the Wicked)

Four men, four lives that intertwine with each other, shows that the righteous are not perfect, and at times, are tempted to forsake the ways of God. As each of these men battle to regain their focus, they will come to realize that the consequences of their sins are far greater than they’d anticipated – just one stupid mistake could produce a lifetime of hell!Imagine sharing the spotlight with a ruthless blackmailer, whose only intention, is to take all of which you’ve worked hard to achieve – your wealth, your fame, and your church of seven thousand members. For Pastor Leroy Paxton of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, this is no imagination. Five years ago, he committed one of the most toxic sins and had almost lost his life trying to cover it up. He now comes face to face with his past, which hunts him from the pulpit to his bedroom. And the only way out of this nightmare is to make a decision that could cost him everything. Then imagine being mentored by one of the most revered men, Abraham Winder, whose stance on accountability and sexual purity is taught rigorously within the Mount Moriah mentoring program, only to discover your mentor is not what you expect. This rings true for Dominic Housten, one of Abraham’s closet and trusted protégés, who accidentally stumbles upon a scene that leaves him frozen in disbelief. As Dominic struggles with betrayal, he confides in the pastor’s daughter – the only woman he’d secretly loved for years. The only problem with that is the pastor’s daughter is married to Phillip Benjamin, a deacon of the church and an extremely jealous man, who suspects Dominic’s intention runs deeper than just a ‘casual’ friendship. Four men, four lives that intertwine with each other, shows that the righteous are not perfect, and at times, are tempted to forsake the ways of God. As each of these men battle to regain their focus, they will come to realize that the consequences of their sins are far greater than they’d anticipated – just one stupid mistake could produce a lifetime of hell!

    whither Willow?

      Peter Ponzo
     whither Willow?

On her twenty-first birthday, Cassandra entered into unholy alliance with the devil, dedicating herself to sacrificing the souls of the unborn in an attempt to reanimate her twin sister who is buried among the roots of a willow tree.Bryan Laker has researched the eighty-year history of the witch Cassandra. He knows of her grisly quest for the unborn. He is terrified ... his wife is pregnant. My name is Justin Hauten. My friends call me Hotten. So do my enemies. I’m a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army and for the last few months I’ve been deployed to Afghanistan on a sensitive reconnaissance mission, along with my best friend—and troublemaker—Sean “Nebraska” Walker. I’m not the smartest guy in the room and I’m certainly not a badass, but when the company commander puts a bullet in my shoulder and orders me to hand over the evidence, my life goes from boring to stupid in about five seconds. And guess what? Nebraska’s having the time of his life. While all of this is troubling, something else has happened that’s throwing my life out of balance: I’ve been receiving love letters from an admirer. A male admirer. This is all new for me. My heart flips when I read his letters because, maybe, it is possible that I feel the same way.Warning: this story contains hot men, jail cells, guns, hot men kissing, a funny sidekick that enjoys embellishing the truth, men in uniform, government conspiracies, hot men kissing, creeps wearing sunglasses at night, secret camera images, and hot men kissing. The Leading Men Are:** Staff Sergeant Justin "Hotten" Hauten... Isn't the smartest guy in the room. He just wants to be a regular soldier but finds himself mixed up kidnappings, government secrets, and the desire to figure out his feelings for Aaron.** First Lieutenant Aaron "Texas" Parris... Has had feelings for Justin for quite some time and he isn't going to hold them in anymore, even if that means getting involved in whatever mess Justin is in -- which is some pretty messed up crap!** Specialist Sean "Nebraska" Walker... Is a tall, lumberjack-ish redheaded, loyal friend to the end. He happily enters into scuffles just for the hell of it. It's possible that he is the cause for some of those scuffles... Being a former semi-pro boxer does have its perks.~*~*~*~It is HIGHLY recommended that you read the series in order.FALLING FOR YOU, Vol 1HUNGRY FOR YOU, Vol 2READY FOR YOU, Vol 3FALLING FOR HIM (The Complete Series), which is priced much lower than purchasing each novella individually.~*~*~*~Need some fine print?* This is a love story between two men. On a scale of 1-5, 1 being "vanilla" and 5 being "this is so hot, I'm dying"; I would rate FALLING FOR YOU a 3.* This series has been published in "Episodic Form" aka, Installments. This means Novella #1 isn't the complete story. It stops at a good spot (cliffhanger), but not at the final conclusion. I know this bothers some folks, so I feel it is best to be upfront about it. This particular novella is about 50 pages long.

    Dylan's Circle of Palms

      Valarie Vine
     Dylan's Circle of Palms

Dylan first discovered the beautiful Circle of Palms near the beach when he was 6 years old. His beloved grandmother would walk with him and teach him about the seasons and years of life by referring to the 88 palm trees that encircled the park as if they were friends at different stages in life. Dylan would never forget the Circle of Palms or the joy for life his grandmother so lovingly shared.Disillusionment can be a great motivator, and when the only way out is up Jet learns that friends can be found in the most unlikely of places: that a courier service is much more than delivering parcels and that diamonds are everyone's best friends. In the Company Wars Chronicles I have a character called Alan P. Ellis. Alan is portrayed as an arrogant and self-important writer, who is the author of a series of books about Jet Black. The idea was to depict Jet Black as a kind of Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers; the kind of over the top character that gets into fanciful and implausible situations. But as anyone who writes will know our characters sometimes refuse to act the way we intended them to, and it occurred to me long after I had introduced Alan that by making Jet into a far-fetched character gave me the opportunity to use a few what if situations I had at the back of my mind without taking the stories too seriously. Jet may have started as a joke, but it seems Alan has had the last laugh.
