We Didn't Mean to Go to Sea

      Arthur Ransome
We Didn't Mean to Go to Sea

In this latest adventure (following Pigeon Post, winner of the Carnegie Medal), the Walker family has come to Harwich to wait for Commander Walker's return. As usual, the children can't stay away from boats, and this time they meet young Jim Brading, skipper of the well-found sloop Goblin. But fun turns to high drama when the anchor drags, and the four young sailors find themselves drifting out to sea - sweeping across to Holland in the midst of a full gale! As in all of Ransome's books, the emphasis is on self-reliance, courage, and resourcefulness. We Didn't Mean to Go to Sea is a story to warm any mariner's heart. Full of nautical lore and adventure, it will appeal to young armchair sailors and season sailors alike.

England is the Property of New Delhi

The year is 2075 AD and India is in control of much of England and Wales. In an act of unbelievable treachery (at least from London’s point of view) the Irish government has sided with New Delhi. England and Wales are being rapidly cleared for Indian colonization and only a few thousand English rebels remain in the mountainous areas. These rebels are difficult to flush out and the Indian military is using a mix of Indian commanders and Irish “Hunters” to find the remaining Englishmen. Amitabh Gavaskar is the Indian Military Governor of North West England. Most of his area is clear but there is one valley in the English Lake District that has been giving odd readings on scans done by automated skimmers flying over the area. Amitabh Gavaskar has five brothers serving in the Indian military and his youngest brother Rahul has just been assigned to the North West England district. Rahul Gavaskar’s first assignment will be to take two of Amitabh Gavaskar’s best Irish Hunters and search the valley using a skimmer. They are to land and search the valley on foot if necessary. Amitabh Gavaskar has promised his father faithfully that he will take good care of young Rahul and this should be a good first assignment for him. Rahul Gavaskar’s skimmer lands in the valley and he and the two Irish Hunters exit the vehicle and begin to search the valley. Unbeknownst to them a Chinese weapons system developed in 2047 and capable of firing obsidian ball bearings at a speed of 4,000 kilometers an hour has detected the approach of the men. The Chinese system is currently in standby mode but if it is activated by any of the Englishmen in the valley then Amitabh Gavaskar will have some very bad news to give to his father. An excerpt from “England is the Property of New Delhi” is below:“That tree is artificial,” Gavaskar yelled. “Stop her, she’s almost there.” Dempsey threw himself into the air and came down bodily on top of the woman. He grabbed her wrist with his hand but he was too late, her fingertips touched the tree. “Fingerprint ID confirmed, awaiting your command,” the tree said or to be more precise a Chinese computer buried one hundred and seventy meters below the surface relayed a voice command to the artificial tree. Shane Jennings had reached the woman too and he grabbed hold of her ankles and pulled her away from the tree. Dempsey turned her over and clamped his hand over Emmeline Sanderson’s mouth. She fought Dempsey turning her head from side to side and biting the Irishman as he fought to keep his hand over her mouth. Gavaskar saw blood starting to seep between Dempsey’s fingers. “Weapons system is active, awaiting your verbal command,” the artificial tree said. It spoke first in English and then repeated the words in Mandarin Chinese.

    Hawking's Hallway

      Neal Shusterman
     Hawking's Hallway

Nick Slate, in order to protect his father and little brother, reluctantly must help the Accelerati complete Tesla's great device. Their power-mad leader wants nothing less than to control the world's energy--but there are still three missing objects to track down. Nick's friends can't help him, as they are spread across the globe grappling with their own mysteries--with Vince in Scotland, Caitlin and Mitch on their way to New Jersey, and Petula's whereabouts unknown. On his own, Nick must locate Tesla's final inventions-- which are the most powerful of all, capable of shattering time and collapsing space. Praise for Tesla's Attic "...Shusterman and Elfman have crafted a plot more devious, characters far quirkier, climaxes (yes, there are two) more breathless, and a narration much, much funnier than recent mad-science offerings. Sticking with a third-person narration frees the authors to be as wryly and sophisticatedly witty as they please without compromising the veracity of their middle-school cast, resulting in storytelling as delightful as the story being told." -Bulletin for the Center for Children's Books (starred review) "Lively, intelligent prose elevates this story of teenagers versus mad scientists, the third-person point of view offering a stage to various players in their play of galactic consequence. A wild tale in the spirit of Back to the Future, with a hint of Malamud's The Natural tossed in."--Kirkus Reviews "This collaboration between Shusterman and Elfman tempers the scarier elements of Nick's quest with deft, humorous writing and plenty of the ordinary adventures of a new kid in school finding his niche. Hand this one to fans of Rick Riordan's Kane Chronicles or Kenneth Oppel's Airborne."--Booklist 2014 VOYA Magazine Top Shelf Honoree A Junior Library Guild Selection

    Kill the dove!

     Kill the dove!

A tale of the revolutionary 1960’s. No novel has covered these religious, political, imprisoned and sexual experiences. Follow the love and betrayals of three radical anti-war and feminist activists: Jared, Aaren, and Char. Share Jared’s experiences in federal prison as the impact of the Vietnam war, sexism and the failure of traditional moral and spiritual value systems play out in their lives.Kill the dove! is a tale of the revolutionary 1960’s. It stands alone—no one has written a novel that covers these religious, political, imprisoned and sexual experiences. It follows the love, betrayals, failures and triumphs of three radical anti-war and feminist activists: Jared, Aaren and Char. They share Jared’s experiences in federal prison as the impact of the Vietnam war, sexual violence, racism, sexism and the failure of traditional moral and spiritual value systems play out in their lives. It is a semi-autobiographical narrative inspired by the author’s personal experiences of the monastery, trial, prison and personal revolution. The Sixties. Anti-war. Religious zealotry. Free Sex. Gays and lesbians. Prison. Sex and violence. Experience the love story of Jared, Aaren and Char. Kill the dove! combines drama, action, and romance. Kill the dove! goes beyond my personal memoir—“Outlaw or American Patriot?”—and the play “Peace Crimes: The Minnesota 8 vs. the war” to present an epic tale of the Sixties.

    RE:Inspiration; Titan II

      James Phillips II
     RE:Inspiration; Titan II

The second chapter in the RE:Inspiration; Titan quadrilogy. After being rescued from certain doom in the dark void of space, Captain Jacobi Myles tells the tale of how he and his crew wound up stranded in space and left to die. From the pen of KJ Hannah Greenberg comes this chapbook of new poetry. Fun, insightful, and lyrical, Fluid and Crystallized focuses primarily on challenging and, only secondarily, on pleasing. This chapbook uses words’ color and texture to provoke interpersonal mindfulness. “Risk,” not “peace,” makes these pages heuristically valuable. What’s more, Fluid and Crystallized, tries to cheer on, to shepherd, and to whisper softly not only about success, but also about failure. This collection shares cautions as well as an appreciation of the scenery.About the Author:KJ Hannah Greenberg, who only pretends at being indomitable, tramps across literary genres and giggles in her sleep. She worries less, however, about linguistic beasts that roam at dusk than about bold fiends that smile and gulp up writers during broad daylight. In the beginning there were Watercolors, 1979, a musical, and Conversations on Communication Ethics, 1991, essays. Following a tour of duty in academia and then decades dedicated to parenting, there are: Oblivious to the Obvious: Wishfully Mindful Parenting, French Creek Press, 2010, essays, A Bank Robber’s Bad Luck with His Ex-Girlfriend, Unbound CONTENT, 2011, poetry, and Don’t Pet the Sweaty Things, Bards & Sages Publishing, 2012, short fictions. In the future, there will be, b’eH: Supernal Factors, 2012, poetry, The Nexus of the Sun, Moon and Mother, 2013, essays, and Oh Your Goodness!, 2013, essays.https://kjhannahgreenberg.net/"Such a galloping, rollicking poet she is. She rolls words from denotation to connotationright through to playful upsetting of conventional usage carts."--Deirdre Kessler, poet and award-winning author of the Brupp series.
