From the Eyes of a Juror

      Frank Terranova
$value['title']

One murder. If there's a moral to this story it's simply the fact that all it takes is one murder to alter the lives of so many. And as you too will come to find, the aftermath of this tale, based on truths both universal and particular, will leave all who cross its path devastated and left alone to ponder the consequences which are all too often unleashed by our own misguided choices in life. When Fred Miller woke up on the morning of Friday, the 13th day of January 2006, he couldn’t have known that this would be his last day on Earth. Despite the enemies he had made over the years, and even though, in a moment of paranoiac weakness, he had recently confided to his closest friends that someone might be out to get him, he never seriously imagined that he’d wind up dead, staring down at the wrong end of a gun.But sadly, regardless of what the fun-loving fanatic of the psychedelic rock band, the Grateful Dead, may or may not have been thinking, there he was, slumped over in his car, shot down and taken from this world in the prime of his life.Just over two years later, Frank Newlan, an equally free-spirited, music-loving, wannabe songwriter in his own right, couldn’t have known that a jury duty summons, a routine day at the local courthouse, would alter the course of his life in such a profound way.Nevertheless, time marches fatefully on in its own uniquely relentless way, and thus, by theoretical extension, where Fred Miller’s story ends, Frank Newlan’s story begins; a story that includes the trial of the man who was accused of orchestrating Miller’s murder; a story that includes a zealous doorman who worked at Newlan’s condo complex and who had ties to a mysterious radical sect; a story that includes the return of a woman from Newlan’s distant past. And improbable though it might sound, these seemingly separate but somehow related events would converge into one great big Bermuda’s Triangle of a storm which would send Newlan spiraling helplessly into the teeth of the devil. For like Fred Miller and countless others before him, Newlan suddenly found himself faced with a truckload of difficult decisions which were impeding the placid road ahead of him; weighty choices that, if made haphazardly, could have serious, perhaps even deadly, consequences. And if this weren’t bad enough, as the trial progressed, Newlan found himself being forced to reluctantly piece together the inconceivable certainty that was taking place before his very eyes. It was a staggering conviction of the heart which was being painstakingly constructed by the attorneys in the case. It was an unimaginable truth. It was a mind-boggling reality. However, it was not, in any way, shape, or form, a precept of innocence or culpability. But rather, it was an ominous connection of the dots which irrevocably linked Newlan’s life to Fred Miller’s death. It was an increasingly eerie set of similarities which bound Newlan’s future to Fred Miller’s past. And yet, despite their likeness, Newlan remained stubbornly unconvinced of the defendant’s guilt.Newlan’s world was being turned upside down, and in his foreboding mind, the tumultuous upheaval which had overtaken his existence suspiciously coincided with his selection to serve as a juror on this sensational murder trial. And furthermore, it seemed that the more he learned about Fred Miller’s life cut short well before its time, the more he began to fear for his own safety, both consciously and in his vibrantly horrific dreams. But despite his suspicions he couldn’t have known that he was rocketing down the same path to extinction that took Fred Miller. Or could he?You see, Newlan occasionally suffered from unfiltered bouts of psychic visions, and so as far as he was concerned, his fortuitous connection to Fred Miller was more than just a coincidence. No, for Frank Newlan, the congruity in their lives signaled a clairvoyant phenomenon which foretold his own fate; a fate that tells a story of life and death; a story of love and hate; a story of relationships both failed and successful; a story that can only be told…from the eyes of a juror.

See Longer description below. The Total December ExperimentThis is a rough draft of an unfinished book by a friend's wife, Lorna Lynne Kreimer, who passed away. I was looking at it to Co-Publish/Author with my friend, thinking we would find just a little more of the story, which we have not. From her stopping point in the book, the story could go any way. I thought I would put it out there to you, present and future authors. Write a chapter and submit it for review, If we include it, we will add you to the list of authors and go on from there. Let's see where we can take it, make in an anthology. The title is taken from the word file the manuscript was found in, 'Total December', which I have come to believe is actually a reference to her accumulated work of that month. Some of the work is rough, some needs formatted, but I will work on that when I have time over the next few months. I may even write a chapter if my muse cracks me in the back of the skull with a bat, screaming "you know what comes next!"Anyway, from this day forward it is a project, an experiment. Lets see where we can take it! Join in on this anthology and get your name out there for others to see!You can reach me by email @: [email protected]!JT Lewis

The Word Became Flesh: an introductory essay on understanding the human and divine natures of Christ

      Terry R. Lynch
$value['title']

“Taking up St. John’s expression ‘The word became flesh’, the church calls ‘Incarnation’ the fact that the Son of God assumed a human nature in order to accomplish our salvation in it.” (CCC #461) Understanding the Incarnation of Christ by way of his human and divine natures.Lina, a 16 year old Iranian girl, has broken the law, a capital offence:she became a Christian. She is arrested and given ONE brutal choice:renounce Christ and confess Allah and Mohammed his prophet. One ofher captors arranges a marriage contract for her to a strong Muslimman who will, “keep her from foolishness and eternal torment with theinfidels”. In such a marriage there would certainly be absoluteobedience and perhaps respect, but could anyone dream that there might be romance and love? She faces extreme darkness with no apparent hope, but then there are also glimmers of brilliant light. In times of greatest stress, Lina feels the presence of her spiritual warrior (guardian angel). In dreams Adonai reveals to Lina facts that could catapult her to undesired fame. The shy girl’s desire to live a quiet life may not be realized. Can she possibly avoid sharing Adonai’s message that will turn the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim world on its head as the Last Day approaches? Her choice could cost her everything. Join Lina’s adventure as she crosses the Middle East to seek God’s Plan for her life and finds God’s next step for the world in Jerusalem. The plight of many Christians in the Middle East is tenuous at best. In many countries the simple act of sharing one’s Christian faith can prove fatal on the spot. Government persecution can be just as repressive. The accusation of Christianity could be terrifying whether true or not. There can be no illusion of “easy believe-ism” here. Under these conditions, how would you react if you were, like Lina, accused of Christianity?

    Paper Ghosts

      Vanessa Deroo
$value['title']

There are stories of love, stories of loss. Stories you wouldn't think are real, and yet they are, of course they are, because the people who lived them are here to tell them. Stories of letting go, stories of moving on. Stories of second chances. Stories of people looking for something.Ghost stories, caught on paper to be real.Grayman chronicles a daring and disturbing experiment to decisively end the tenacious threat of global terrorism. A group of powerful corporate and political players lever a desperate world to create a multinational force of surgical strike teams, authorized to cross borders and pursue targets with impunity; armed with advanced weapons, technology and armor; and directed by a cutting-edge artificial intelligence. But more than simply employing high-tech military might, this new army is designed to fight a true “information war” by operating completely in the public eye, their missions crafted for maximum marketability, their operatives shaped into Hollywood-style action heroes. The series focuses on the man being groomed to be the wired public’s greatest hero: Given the “stage name” Mike Ram, he’s charismatic, talented and damaged unknown, pushed by circumstance to become a merciless predator. Initially little more than a trauma-driven serial killer, he’s given a new identity and is re-programmed to kill on cue to satisfy the media’s thirst for violent and visible retribution against an equally vicious enemy. Ram quickly rises from being a murderer on the run to being an untouchably popular celebrity and global leader, as his every action plays out on the public stage. In Book One: Acts of War, the enigmatic “Grayman” has been killing known terrorists throughout Europe in spectacularly brutal fashion. Captured by Coalition forces, he is recruited by a joint military and intelligence project to create the ultimate counter-terror force, only to find himself being carefully groomed into something unthinkable: a popular hero.
