    Mozart's Brain - Number 3

      Wim Baren
$value['title']

Mozart’s legendary genius for composing beautiful music inspires others in many fields to be as creative, as wrapped in the beauty of their works, as he was in his. These little broadsheets reflect personal inspirations gained from my creative writing efforts, while drinking in all the wonderful and inspiring compositions of a young man two hundred years older than me.“Looking at her weakened body, my eyes got lost in a far-away universe. She was still beautiful. Still smiling. Even now. Worried about her hairstyle. About what people may see in her. How she was dressed. Ensuring she always remains a desired woman. She remained somehow the cute yet sexy woman I once enjoyed life with.”It all started as a teenage romance. To be then put at risk by the cold breeze of death. Twice. “Twice”, a fictional memoir by Frank van der Kok is not a love story. Rather the story of love. Of true love. One that endures time. And a brain damage caused by an unfortunate car accident. And breast cancer. Will it endure further trials? Frank van der Kok tells this unique and touching story in a light and informal way. As if we would be discussing throughout the night, at the candle light, over a good old wine. Dare to open his books. You will never put them down again...Dare to step in. Read on and experience a unique life story. With its immense swings. I will take you to the ups and downs of Flower’s story. Hell and Heaven in one place. Past, present and future combined in one dimension.Inspired by a true life experience.“She was beautiful. Amazing. Gorgeous. Angelic. We didn’t organise too much the details, yet, it was all out of a perfect romance. Calm rays of the sun peeked into the church through the tall windows. To then meet her white dress and create a unique glitter all around. The stone walls that always seemed cold to me, now warmed up when reflecting the smooth sounds of the organ. She was approaching in small steps. Normally I’m against ceremonies and formal events. Not extremely patient either... Yet, in that loving moment I was enjoying every second of it. Her face started revealing itself to me more and more, as she was approaching. Her smiling, joyful face. Always loved her smile. All women are most beautiful when smiling. Their cheeks play along, creating a new harmony. Making them cute and lovable. Flower was maxing out this experience. Her eyes were, to be more precise. She was smiling through her eyes. One could easily see the sparkle of happiness in her smile. The dress, the organ, it all made it even more amazing.- I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honour you all the days of my life."Frank van der Kok is a Hungarian writer, currently living in Netherlands. Author of “Fights of Your Life” and “Twice”, a series of fictional memoire.Frank van der Kok's dèbut novel, the Fights of Your Life was first released in Hungarian in September 2013, to be then published in April 2014 in English as well. It tells the story of a young woman fighting for her life after a severe car accident. The story of Flower now continues. Only years after recovering from a severe brain damage, Flower is now back in the surgery rooms. To fight the biggest nightmare of our times - cancer. Will she survive? Twice?

$value['title']

Transition is the second volume in the Nexus Odyssey series. A fragile foothold was established on Mars during the first volume. The sequel takes up the story of how humanity deals with the discovery of another life form and the schism which develops between the two planets. A second discovery on Mars throws the relationship into potential meltdown, sending a very a sobering message to Earth.Coming out of her recent rumpus with Sheik Hari Al-Najib in the British Virgin Islands, teleoperator Clarity Nice flies out of BVI to Florida, in order to stay in Miami, and to avoid taking another plane back to Macau. Awaiting for her there in Asia, are those who purchased the ring by Mauboussin that Clarity received in Singapore, a ring kept by videographer Plum Bailey in BVI, which shows a symbol in one of the baguettes, known as the 'incomplete triangle'.While in transit in Florida, she is arrested by Customs and Border Immigration at Miami International Airport, after showing up in a list of people to watch, involved with the theft of federal bonds, previously held by the shady Cayman Islands banking agent Buddha Talk. To avoid going to a local detention center, Clarity is hired by Lloyd, a representative of the shady banking agent, who tells her that his boss wants a beachhead in South Florida, in the fast food beef and burger market. The market for burgers in the region, is dominated by rivals Moe Alamy, and by her protege, Gavino di Laure, the owners of the Mclannan's burger franchise, and of its mascot, Ollie the clown.Clarity reaches the lavish home of Buddha Talk in the Florida Keys, Swankeye, to help him out with 'business'. The banking agent, whose real name is Joe Mannen, has been having some problems with Cayman authorities. Inspectors Taylor and Marville are inquiring in his home in Florida, about the renewal license of Mannen's main business in the Cayman Islands, Lofty Bank. Mannen's reputation as a mobster has been dented with local Cappi of South Florida, by the disappearance of one million in stolen bonds, formerly held in his home in Cayman, now under Federal custody, after a whistle blower in a strip club called Milton's, told di Laure about the stolen bonds held by Mannen's pilot. In a meeting involving the various mobsters who rule the meat packing, distribution, and retail segments in South Florida, Mannen is left without a share of the meat business, and with the swamped Everglades territory of Monroe as the only turf to establish any burger related business. The only real business di Laure allows for Mannen is a small pawnshop in Miami, called the Gladeview pawnshop.Mannen knows that di Laure wants him out of South Florida, without any business at all. To restablish credibility with Cappi, using a manual called Cocoanomics found in a liquidation notice listed in the Cayman Islands Gazette, Mannen sends off Clarity to learn of di Laure's plans. She becomes a regular employee of Mclannan's, attending the rigorous training program of Ollie Burger University at the Mclannan's training center in Boynton, Florida. Dodging the henchman of Di Laure, Ambrosio, she will have to find a way to alter the Ollie burger of the franchise, to elicit a sale by Di Laure to Mannen of some of the locations of the profitable burger restaurants.

$value['title']

While running away from a pair of bullies, Ben and Tessa discover an old elevator that takes them to strange new places. They have a number of mishaps and adventures as they try to put things to rights.Ok, the write up. Well, these are what we call Quick Flash stories, which means they aren’t very long and so you could probably read one to completion on your way to work which is what we had in mind when producing them.. People asked us 'can you write something I could start and finish on my way to work?' The two in this little presentation about the arenas are absolutely brilliant, one about ants and the other about a talented ice skater. The introduction is a cool idea about the end of the world and you should maybe read it because it may save your life one day. What is the end of the world anyway? I hear it mentioned here and there and in some other books. Is the 'world' the lump of stone that is our planet? How would we end it? I can’t tell you right now because it is Sunday and I don’t go to the fetish club until Wednesday where I am a mad scientist, so best ask me on a Thursday when I will have the answer (unless I manage to end the world that night). If I do, people who have to go to jobs they hate on Thursday morning will build a statue in my honor ... but how would they do that? The world has ended. If I were you, as a convenience precaution, I'd tie up any loose ends on or by Wednesday night. What if, on Weds night, everybody on earth puts all the plugs in all the sinks and baths and turn both taps on? Within a few hours the world would be flooded and most would drown. If you don't drown, your next water bill will be horrendous especially if you're on a meter. Be warned! The Water Board WILL get you.So, for now ... Is it the end of civilsation soon? I’ve no obvious idea, but it is probably not the end, but ‘change’. In that case if you’re one of the survivors, you will need to adapt ... us humans are pretty resilient. How to adapt? Well, I’ve stuck in my own idea in the QF download, and the great thing is, you can start doing it now.Have a nice day

    Vertigo

      W. G. Sebald
$value['title']

Vertigo, W. G. Sebald's first novel, never before translated into English, is perhaps his most amazing and certainly his most alarming. Sebald—the acknowledged master of memory's uncanniness—takes the painful pleasures of unknowability to new intensities in Vertigo. Here in their first flowering are the signature elements of Sebald's hugely acclaimed novels The Emigrants and The Rings of Saturn. An unnamed narrator, beset by nervous ailments, is again our guide on a hair-raising journey through the past and across Europe, amid restless literary ghosts—Kafka, Stendhal, Casanova. In four dizzying sections, the narrator plunges the reader into vertigo, into that "swimming of the head," as Webster's defines it: in other words, into that state so unsettling, so fascinating, and so "stunning and strange," as The New York Times Book Review declared about The Emigrants, that it is "like a dream you want to last forever."
