The major is from an old family in the Highlands, which has always had its ties with the Fair Folk. Every generation has borne several Macconnachs with unusual abilities. For Macconnach, it means insight to the realm of death, and the sometimes strange machinations of the supernatural world. For the British Crown, men and women such as Macconnach are a secret in plain sight. Some of these individuals are assigned to military postings, some are spies, and some are diplomats. General Abington’s daughter, Isabelle Alderton, has only recently returned to her beloved India, after attending to her mother through a terminal illness. She has come back, knowing that she is of an age when most other young ladies are already settled into domesticity. The very idea of matrimony is enough to send her into cold fury. Much of the little time she interacts with the officers under her father’s command is spent parrying their marriage proposals. And so, she is understandably put off to find Macconnach pursuing her in the dark of night, as she slips out to make an unauthorized visit to a local village. Quickly, she finds that he isn’t like the other preening fools who are his peers. He is dark, strange, and far more insightful than she is comfortable with. After a few false starts, they find themselves launched on an adventure which will upend all of Isabelle’s comfortable notions of the world. On the way, in spite of their sparring, they also find themselves drawn to one another in a way neither of them had expected. If they can survive battling with demons, walking dead, and ancient evil, that is.

When the first messages were detected, scientists believed that we would never meet the Extra-Terrestrials because of the great distance between them and us. It was hoped that we could learn from them but even that possibility seemed remote since it would take at least four years to get a response to a message. And at first, there was little real communication because of the response time and language differences but a cult grew anyway, attributing aliens with high intelligence and an advanced society. Even so, many were wary of aliens but it didn’t matter because they were so far away that all scientists believed that physical contact would be impossible. But then Earth learned that aliens were coming. Even though it would be many more years before the aliens’ arrival, the cult became a bureaucracy that enforced politically correct attitudes about the VEEZEE. Still, Ed Halloran (although he was an agent of the bureaucracy) worried that the aliens might not be the benign benefactors that had been claimed. And he was right, because aliens came in a cloud of devastation, and it was soon obvious that alien physiology and alien concepts of society and personhood were incompatible with human life. Halloran, along with his partner Marilee Sharp, and an army made up of very old soldiers and very young recruits, were called upon to rid Earth of the scourge.

I didn’t know what to write.I started posting the usual stuff. I talked about my day, my dog, my bathroom habits and said LOL a lot, but that just wasn’t me. I wanted to do something more. I wanted to contribute to the good of the world (are you believing any of this yet?) After reinventing myself I started posting my observations of the world around me in the form of Ward’s Laws.I now wrote about funny observations I made about everyday life. Silly word plays as well as things we see and do all the time but never question. As the number of new posts grew, my friends on the site started telling me that I needed to publish these laws as a book. At first I was flattered, but their constant encouragement, LOL's, and retweets gave me the fortitude to create the book you are about to read. It is in fact, a discovery from research findings based on the history or record of such priests. In this short story, I exposed some evils perpetrated by these fame-hunting blood-ritual miracle priests. Moreover, these are true-life stories chronicled from precise locations in the sun scorching regions of the world....Alfred May.
