      Imani J. Walton
$value['title']

Melaina Roberts is not a lesbian. She doesn't like girls. Okay there was that one but that was a phase. She was just confused and lost. She's over that. She's strictly straight and if she tells herself that enough, it'll be true. Eventually this pain in her chest and distaste in her mouth will disappear, right? If I like the idea of being a girl that had to mean that I was disgusting and desiring a disgusting lifestyle. Maybe Beth was right about it being a phase. If it’s just a phase then I’ll move past it and be okay. I like boys anyway. I’ve always liked boys. So I can’t like girls too. It had to be either one or the other because otherwise it’s just confusing. Maybe I was confused. I had a beautiful, close friend and confused my appreciation of friendship for attraction. That had to be it, right? I hadn’t liked a girl before Beth and even if I liked girls it had to be just a phase. But what if it wasn’t? What if I really did like girls? Who else would see me as revolting and turn away from me? How many sleepovers will I automatically not be invited to? How many people would treat me differently? How many girls will inch away from me or take my kindness as flirting and reject me? How many guys will try to talk me out of being myself because they knew how to fix my confusion? How will my family treat me once I tell them?

    Miscue

      Glen C. Allison
$value['title']

A child is stolen in a twisted city A broken SEAL chases redemption, one step ahead of darkness. Can you keep up? From the shadows of the French Quarter, Forte must track down the killer of an abortion doctor and find the doctor's kidnapped child. The trail takes Forte from the Big Easy to a tropical paradise and threatens to derail him once again. MISCUE is the first of the Forte trilogy. An abortion doctor has been murdered in the Garden District. To be honest, that news ordinarily wouldn't bother Al Forte, a former SEAL. He has has hands full just staying clean and sober. But when the doctor's young daughter is kidnapped by the killer, it gets Forte's attention. The trail leads Forte from the Big Easy to the Belize island of Ambergris Cay with more twists than a swamp moccasin. In the end, what he discovers threatens to crash his day-by-day stability once again.MISCUE is a “a quick, easy and fun escape that's tightly paced, told with authority and authenticity” that “puts you right on a French Quarter balcony with a black cat named Boo and its well-worn owner, Al Forte.” The Midwest Book Review calls MISCUE “a straight-ahead, entertaining whodunit with enough twists and turns to confuse the most astute student of detective novels.” The Review says “Allison doesn't hesitate to comment on his own version of social justice, which lends grit and realism to a character the reader can't help cheering for. Al Forte is a flawed but resilient personality who exudes strength even in the midst of his own self-doubt, which lends credibility and a sense of justice fulfilled when he finally cracks the case. His dialogue is stunning.”Glen C. Allison rescues readers from boredom daily through the exploits of Forte, an addict and ex-SEAL in New Orleans who recovers stolen children. Forte rises from the darkness of his self-inflicted misery to protect endangered innocents in his safe house hidden in the shadows of the French Quarter. A simpler justice guides him through the hard-edged backdrop of the Big Easy to give suspense readers a harrowing taste of this city's secret evils. Forte finds purpose in the protecting the small ones and realizes redemption in the most unlikely places.MISCUE is book one of the Forte Suspense Trilogy, followed by NETBLUE, and the soon-to-be-releaaed SNAFU.

    It Can't Happen Here

      Jack Nelson
$value['title']

Current events, politics and economics point toward dangerous instability for our Republic. We need to look forward in the world's new conditions, rather than hold on to failed ideas and policies. The existing finance/tax code rule set is wrecking our long-term real wealth in favor of evanescent paper profits, and worse yet, stripping the poor to profit the rich. In parallel, a calamitous policy that repeats the error of failed alcohol prohibition, our War on Drugs is a hundred billion dollar subsidy for the terrorists, and debases our society with a criminal money culture. These economic structures...the finance/tax/corporate globalizations, and unregulated dope billions...combine to make heartless greed ascendant. Legal or not, inhuman values permeate too much.Any democracy is far more vulnerable than most of us realize, and carries within the seeds of its own destruction. Even the original Greek version of 2500 years ago was felled by excesses of demagoguery and populism. People are easily manipulated to vote against their own interests, something Hitler proved so notoriously, but the mechanisms are active in American politics. Psychopaths, PACs, media, fanaticism, fears, ignorance and more can combine in new ways to grasp power for its own sake. Today,America's population is triple the whole world's in 500BC, a fact that should give us perspective on the accelerating complexities. But this is a country that can turn on a dime, throw off outdated habits and remake itself in a shining new image. We must change direction or fall.

With this one-shot story entitled 'Shopping Spree.' Angie and Kent are two lost souls wandering the streets of Hollywood.
