The Best Damned Squirrel Dog (Ever)

      Josh Langston
$value['title']

This short Civil War ghost story, set in the contemporary South, shows how the act of settling a simple bet can sometimes change history. Those who survived the horrible battles of the American Civil War are talked about almost as much as the many thousands who did not. And what about those who should have fought, but didn't? Hardly anyone talks about them, or the many reasons they might have missed the opening volley. The Best Damned Squirrel Dog (Ever) tells one such story. Though the characters and location are fictional, the author's in-depth knowledge of local history brings the story to life and makes this a great read for anyone interested in love, pets, the 150th anniversary of the "great unpleasantness," or the war itself.

      Robert Ladd
$value['title']

THE MAJOR’S LETTER is a fictional account of the last week in the life of Union Major Sullivan Ballou, featuring the famous letter he wrote to his wife Sarah shortly before his death at the Battle of Bull Run. Made famous by the PBS Documentary “The Civil War,” Ballou’s letter has been called one of the most eloquent statements of love and devotion found in 19th century literature. All readers, please help me out: I'd like to turn this concept into a novel, so would love to have your feedback on how it should evolve. I want to write a book that both of us can enjoy. So check it out, and let me know how I can create a story we'd both be proud of. Thanks! RobertOut of great tragedy sometimes comes great triumph. One such tragedy was the American Civil War, fought from 1861 to 1865. More American soldiers died during this intense five-year period than those in World War I, World War II, Korean and Vietnam combined. And yet, the triumphant stories of heroism, bravery and devotion from this great tragedy abound.     Notable Quotes of Catcher McCall

      C.J. Lanet
$value['title']

The quotes entitled "Medal of Honor" and "Presidential Candidate of the United States" are from Part Two: Catcher McCall - Respect and Betrayal.Part One - Catcher McCall - Regrets and Rescue chronicled the events in Af-fucking-ghanistan, which culminates in inadvertently saving the life of a U.S. Congressman that warrants Catcher McCall to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor. Because of accepting the reluctant prize, the public's fascination catapults Catcher McCall to be a candidate for the presidency of the United States. What happened next is truer than fiction. As William Faulkner said, "The best fiction is far more true than any journalism."Part Two - I’m Catcher McCall: War hero, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, and candidate for the presidency of the United States. Why and how it happened makes telling the truth a revolutionary act. Indeed, truth is not obligated to conform to possibilities, and instead changes with time and convention. Famous Catcher McCall quotes in the context of being a candidate for the presidency. Catcher McCall ... Outsider is presented as a modern day epic in three volumes: Catcher McCall - Regrets and Rescue, Catcher McCall - Respect and Betrayal and Catcher McCall - Lost and Return. Volume Four - Catcher McCall vs. Wall Street is scheduled for release on April 1, 2013.______________

    The Last Dinosaur

      TJ Daniels
$value['title']

I'm very sorry about the formatting, and I followedthe instructions too. If you click on 'HTML' to read it, then copy each page and using a text editor like note pad and paste what you've copied and save it as filename.html you'll be able to read it as it was supposed to be.The Last Dinosaur is totally fiction from the beginning to the end. It's from the warped mind of TJ Daniels Poet. It's filled with humor throughout.A long, long time ago, in a land far away, on a desert covered rain forest lived A Giant. (we don't know what kind of giant it was, it was just called A Giant). One day, the giant was cruising along on his rolling stone, (the stone was the size of Mount Rushmore), but it was round and he had discovered that by balancing on it, he could make it move. And that became his mode of transport. He hadn't yet discovered that he could use two, like inline roller skates. This was the forerunner of the unicycle, pogo stick, big wheel and many other fine inventions, including the wheel and the one wheeled scooter. He was going too fast one day when too late, he saw an egg, just laying there in the rain forest covered desert, but now it looked like a one egg omelet and that was 'The Last Dinosaur'.When the last dinosaur egg was squished, it went to dinosaur heaven and was greeted by all of his/her ancestors. You couldn't tell male from female dinosaurs, but they had a special code, or maybe a special smell so they knew the difference, maybe not. Maybe whenever they met another dinosaur, one would say: 'I'm male' and the other would say: 'Me too, glad to meet you'.There were squirrel dinos, flying dinos, rawling dinos, chicken dinos, and there were even a few Pet Rock dinos that had turned to stone because of age.Dino Heaven looked much the same as Arizona, with blue skies, and a lot of sand and sand castles. It almost looked like a desert, except there weren't any trees. Otherwise it would look like a desert without trees. It was a very peaceful place and very flat, with mountains from horizon to horizon, covered with water filled sand. In the middle, there was a majestic fountain, flowing with sand colored water. This was a very special sand, 'cause you could drink it, eat it and you pooped beautiful hand-carved sandcastles. There were piles of sandcastles everywhere.Everyone that lived in this desert was very rich, because they used sand as currency. Whenever you ran out, all you had to do was reach down and grab a handful, put it in your pocket and you were no longer poor. Many pocketswere filled to bulging. The greedy even had bulging back packs, and they called themselves 'bankers'.At the end of this desert, there was a giant forest, with all sorts of vegetable and fruit trees. The watermelon trees only grew a few inches off the ground though, because of the weight of the watermelons, so you didn't have to climb the trees to harvest the melons. In the middle of the desert/forest, hidden in plain sight, deep in the mountains was a magic sand castle. It was so magical that it was invisible and you could only find it by touch, or by bumping into it. One night, The Giant tripped over it and fell on it and the sand made him sneeze. He sneezed so loud that he created an earthquake and the earthquake created a giant black hole.As The Giant and the desert/forest and everything that existed was sucked into the black hole, The Giant was so startled, angry, sad and happy, that he cursed in a language understood only by him. It could have been ahappy curse, no one knows, since no one understood the language. Then, as if by magic, everything that was in the black hole came shooting out as fast as light and instantly reassembled itself as it was before. Except that in the middle, there was a space ship.

In an act of unbelievable treachery (at least from London’s point of view) the Irish government has sided with New Delhi. England and Wales are being rapidly cleared for Indian colonization and only a few thousand English rebels remain in the mountainous areas. These rebels are difficult to flush out and the Indian military is using a mix of Indian commanders and Irish “Hunters” to find the remaining Englishmen. Amitabh Gavaskar is the Indian Military Governor of North West England. Most of his area is clear but there is one valley in the English Lake District that has been giving odd readings on scans done by automated skimmers flying over the area. Amitabh Gavaskar has five brothers serving in the Indian military and his youngest brother Rahul has just been assigned to the North West England district. Rahul Gavaskar’s first assignment will be to take two of Amitabh Gavaskar’s best Irish Hunters and search the valley using a skimmer. They are to land and search the valley on foot if necessary. Amitabh Gavaskar has promised his father faithfully that he will take good care of young Rahul and this should be a good first assignment for him. Rahul Gavaskar’s skimmer lands in the valley and he and the two Irish Hunters exit the vehicle and begin to search the valley. Unbeknownst to them a Chinese weapons system developed in 2047 and capable of firing obsidian ball bearings at a speed of 4,000 kilometers an hour has detected the approach of the men. The Chinese system is currently in standby mode but if it is activated by any of the Englishmen in the valley then Amitabh Gavaskar will have some very bad news to give to his father. An excerpt from “England is the Property of New Delhi” is below:“That tree is artificial,” Gavaskar yelled. “Stop her, she’s almost there.” Dempsey threw himself into the air and came down bodily on top of the woman. He grabbed her wrist with his hand but he was too late, her fingertips touched the tree. “Fingerprint ID confirmed, awaiting your command,” the tree said or to be more precise a Chinese computer buried one hundred and seventy meters below the surface relayed a voice command to the artificial tree. Shane Jennings had reached the woman too and he grabbed hold of her ankles and pulled her away from the tree. Dempsey turned her over and clamped his hand over Emmeline Sanderson’s mouth. She fought Dempsey turning her head from side to side and biting the Irishman as he fought to keep his hand over her mouth. Gavaskar saw blood starting to seep between Dempsey’s fingers. “Weapons system is active, awaiting your verbal command,” the artificial tree said. It spoke first in English and then repeated the words in Mandarin Chinese.
